This horticulture project offers an opportunity to be involved in the local farming community and a supportive, low stress work environment for those affected by a mental illness. A variety of vegetable crops are grown, which and then sold at the Port Alberni farmers market and at the farm location.
The program runs weekday mornings and in addition to the Program Coordinator, is staffed by volunteers who receive a monthly honorarium. Healthy Harvest aims to:
- Explore and develop micro-business opportunities focused in the production and sale of organic vegetable and fruit crops
- Offer instruction in environmentally employment skills
- Produce food for personal use and sale.
Funded by CMHA Port Alberni Branch, generated revenues, The Vancouver Foundation and Vancouver Island Health Authority.
