Food Matters is a frozen food restaurant that feeds 35-40 individuals with mental illness or addictions issues. Three frozen meals are provided per week at a cost of $32.50 per month.
There is also a vocational training program for people with long term mental illness. This program provides kitchen training skills for job readiness in all aspects of commercial kitchen work. Trainees are paid a small hourly wage to work two 4-hour shifts each week and receive a certificate of achievement once training is completed. This program builds bridges with employment agencies and commercial kitchens in the local community to link prospective employers with potential employees.
This program is funded by generated revenues and Vancouver Island Health Authority.
